Fabric Ink for Block Printing
Materials Needed:
5 TBS turpentine
2 TBS vinegar
1 TBS oil of cloves
1 TBS Ivory dishwasing liquid
8-ox. bottle
Oil paint pigments
Palette knife
Sheet of glass
Brayer
Carved wood or linoleum block
Piece of Fabric
Hot iron
Instructions:
1) Pour first four ingredients into bottle and shake well.
2) Thin oil paint pigments with this solution to the consistency of a thick cream. On glass, work smooth with palette knife.
3) Roll brayer back and forth until mixture is tacky and brayer is evenly coated.
4) Roll over the carved block.
5) Press block over the fabric with even pressure. Remove block.
6) Place a damp cloth over the design and press with hot iron.
Makes enough ink for one project. Designs may be washed in warm water with a mild soap.
